Career Courses

The Fleishman Career Center designs and oversees four career development courses that provide students with career-readiness skills and experiences. The courses are created by career consultants and then approved by a faculty-led Academic Council to ensure they meet the rigorous academic standards at 海角乱伦社区. Each course is intended for students at a different stage in their career development journey.

Career Exploration Course (CDCI 200)

CDCI 200 is ideal for students who either have yet to declare a major, who are having second thoughts about their current major, or who are experiencing overall uncertainty about their career direction. This course helps students identify their skills and interests and then connect them to a career and major. Students will work with career consultants to complete self-assessments, network with professionals in fields they are considering, research careers, identify opportunities to gain experience, and learn about resources and options available to them. At the end of the course, students have an action plan and are more confident in their career direction. 

  • Offered: Every semester, including summer session
  • Class years: First-years, sophomores and juniors

Credit-Bearing Internship Program (CDCI 385 and 395)

The Credit-Bearing Internship Program (CDCI 385 or 395) is a seminar course that students register for in conjunction with an internship. Students are responsible for securing this internship themselves, but they can schedule an appointment with a career consultant for support. The courses teach students skills to enhance their internship experience. 

CDCI 385 is an engaging and interactive in-person internship course that fulfills the Oral (O) general education requirement. The curriculum is designed to enhance your public speaking skills and provides the opportunity to learn the art of captivating presentations, while showcasing your newfound internship expertise. 

  • Offered: spring and fall semesters
  • In-person for 1 hour per week
  • Class years: All undergraduate students with at least a sophomore standing

CDCI 395 is an online, asynchronous course that is designed to be easily balanced with internship hours and other coursework. Students learn about networking at their internship site and beyond, professional communication, adding the internship experience on their resume, setting up a LinkedIn account and more. There are also opportunities for reflection and connecting with classmates who are going through similar experiences. 

  • Offered: Every semester, including summer session
  • Online asynchronous
  • Class years: All undergraduate
  • Credits: 2, 4 or 8 (varies based on the number of hours a student will be interning)

Design Your Post-Graduation Plan (CDCI 476/HDEV 476)

Design Your Post-Graduation Plan (CDCI 476) is a course designed to support juniors and seniors as they prepare to transition out of 海角乱伦社区 and into the workforce or graduate/professional school. Students will work with career consultants to create a post-graduation plan that is reflective of their career goals. This course is intended to facilitate increased confidence in the job search or graduate school application process through guided activities and reflection, industry research and facilitated networking to increase students鈥 social capital.

  • Offered: Fall and spring semesters
  • Class years: Junior and senior
  • Credits: 2
