Winter Break Closing

The residence halls will close for Winter Break at 10:00 a.m. December 14, 2024 and reopen at 9:00 a.m. January 19, 2025.

24-HOUR QUIET HOURS begin 11:59 p.m. Friday, December 6 and will continue through 8:00 p.m. Friday, December 13. Quiet hours allow students time to study and prepare for finals. This policy will be enforced in the residence halls during this time.

Closing Room Inspections

Residential Life staff will be checking each room on Saturday, December 14th after 10:00 a.m. to ensure that safety and maintenance conditions have been met for Winter Break.

Before leaving their residence hall, students must:

  • Unplug all electrical devices including refrigerators; these must be left open with a towel in front to catch any moisture from thawing.
  • Unplug all e-bike, e-scooters, and other personal transport devices and take them home. If you are unable to take these devices with you it is required the battery be disconnected and unplugged. Any e-bikes or e-scooters found in student rooms will be unplugged by staff.
  • Close and lock all windows and doors.
  • Close and lower blinds three-quarters down.
  • Remove all perishable food and trash from your room and hall.
  • Remove all personal items from bathrooms. All suite bathrooms and corridor-style bathrooms will be cleaned over the break.
  • If you leave a car on campus, please park in lots: Lots G1, M1, or ZZ North or South for security and snow emergency reasons. If you are staying on campus, you may also park in Lots O2, S1, and Y4.
  • If you have a Sabbath key, make sure to return it to your community office as instructed.

Please note: The pathway between Mountainview and College-in-the-Woods is intended for pedestrians and service vehicles only. It will be blocked intentionally and cars should not drive on the pathway.

Room Check Out

Students who are leaving the University and checking out of on-campus housing or who are making a room change for the Spring semester should refer to their B-Mail address for detailed instructions. Students have two options for checking out of their room before Winter Break Closing:

Express Checkout

With this option, students can easily leave their keys in the green drop box located in your building鈥檚 lobby. Your Residence Director will complete a short walk-through of your old room during Closing room inspections and note any major damages that may need to be repaired.

RD Walk-Throughs

With this option, students can schedule an appointment with their Residence Director to complete a walk-through of their room with them in person. This option requires a prior appointment to be scheduled and cannot be accommodated as a last-minute request.
