Transfer Planning Guidelines
Cinema-related course transfer equivalencies are determined by the Cinema Department faculty transfer advisor during a new/transfer student orientation.
General Education and the Harpur College Writing Requirement
It is strongly recommended that students transferring from two-year colleges concentrate on fulfilling the SUNY General Education and Harpur College writing requirements prior to enrolling at 海角乱伦社区. For more information on these requirements, please contact Harpur Academic Advising. While completing the Cinema major you will automatically complete Gen Ed A (Aesthetics) requirement and at least one course in the Cinema major requirements (CINE 321: Film Theory) will help you complete the writing requirement.
Residency Requirement for Cinema Major & Minor:
- All transferred courses must have a letter grade of C or better (The department requires a grade of C or better in cinema courses counted toward the Cinema major & minor. No courses for the major may be taken Pass/Fail).
- A minimum of 6 courses in Cinema courses must be taken at Harpur College in order to qualify for the Cinema major.
- SUNY Broome Community College
The SUNY Broome course 鈥淐OM 145: Contemporary Film Analysis鈥 will be transferred for CINE 121, and "COM 205: Introduction to Filmmaking" will be transferred for CINE 252.

The following courses will be transferred for our 200-level Cinema electives (please note that students are required to take two 200-level Cinema electives for the Cinema major requirements and one 200-level Cinema elective for the Cinema minor requirements).

- Nassau Community College
The NCC course 鈥淐OM 112: History of Film鈥 may be considered as equivalent to CINE 121 following a review of the COM 112 syllabus and an interview with the faculty transfer advisor.
For transfer students wishing to receive transfer credit for production courses such as the NCC course 鈥淐OM 107: Film Production I,鈥 a portfolio is required. Media files or films must be sent to the department chair or undergraduate adviser for review. The role of the student in the production of these works must be clearly stated.
Deadline for receiving portfolio is Thursday of week before classes begin. The portfolio review committee of the department鈥檚 production faculty may award transfer credit for CINE 252, but they may also award partial credit and/or specify additional coursework at 海角乱伦社区 to satisfy the program鈥檚 production requirements.
Other film courses from NCC may be approved for transfer as electives on a case-by-case basis.

The SUNY WCC course 鈥淔ILM 100: Intro to Film鈥 or "FILM 110: Cinema Studies Honors" will be transferred for CINE 121 and "FILM 130: Digital Storytelling" will be transferred for CINE 252.
