Fostering student well-being in your classroom
Institutions of higher education have a tremendous responsibility in creating and
encouraging healthy habits for students that will last a lifetime. Research has shown
the importance of student mental well-being to academic success, and during such a
formative time in personal and professional development, it is evermore important
to increase awareness and provide support for students to encourage these healthy
habits.
The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the important role that faculty and staff play
in supporting student well-being and how interdisciplinary topics of well-being can
be. Furthermore, faculty and staff also play a pivotal role in supporting students
in ways outside of their academics, whether it be supporting them professionally,
fostering social connections with peers, encouraging students to become more resilient,
and even more. Well-being is multidimensional, and while the classroom is an academic
setting, there is also room to address individual lifestyle factors and afford students
the opportunities and resources to develop a foundation that will support their well-being
long after graduation. Check out the resources below for ways to implement more well-being
strategies into your classroom!
